Open Files with 100K+ Segments: MemSource Editor 3.90 Released

$

0

You may have noticed that we have recently released MemSource Web Editor (as part of MemSource Cloud 3.0 release). However, we have not stopped improving our (more mature) desktop translator’s workbench – MemSource Editor. Today we have released MemSource Editor 3.90. It is immediately available for download and we have just started pushing this new version to our users through the automated upgrade process.

Here is a list of the new features:

  • Change in version numbering
    • The last version that was available to MemSource Cloud users was 1.83. We have changed the version numbering system, so that it is immediately clear with what version of MemSource Cloud our editors are compatible. Since now have MemSource Cloud 3.0, we have changed the version numbering from 1.90 to 3.90.
  • MemSource Editor even faster and optimized for large files
    • Previous versions of MemSource Editor have been praised for being fast for general editing tasks. We have now made it even faster, including for large files. It is now possible to open MXLIFF files with over 100 thousand segments. For instance, an MXLIFF file with 250,000 segments will open in 1-2 minutes (depending on your CPU) and it is possible to edit it quite comfortably. Scrolling through this file is surprisingly fast.
  • Repetition exception
    • Clicking on the repetition icon in a segment will turn on/turn off the repetition exception feature for that segment. The repetition exception makes it possible to translate a repeated segment differently from the other repeated segments. This can be useful in a number of cases – especially when the context is different and a single translation will not do for all repetitions.

  • Login tab pops up if no login info available
    • If a user opens MemSource Editor and no login information is entered under File – Preferences, the Login tab pops up automatically, with “cloud1.memsource.com” pre-populated in the Server field.
  • Source file name displayed
    • The source file name for the selected segment is now displayed in the Editor’s status bar. This is especially useful when translating a joined file, as it is immediately apparent which source file gets edited by a user at any given moment.

  • Selected quotation option remembered
    • Previously, when a user selected a specific quotation option, it would get reverted back to the default one after relaunching. The Editor remembers the selected option now.
  • Segment source and target character count
    • Segment source and target character count is now displayed in the status bar for a selected segment

  • Quality assurance launched in steps
    • If there are hundreds or thousands of QA warnings, the QA panel will only show warnings for the first hundred segments and will allow the user to retrieve additional warnings by clicking on the “Show more” link.
  • After copying source to target, cursor positioned at the segment’s start
    • Previously, the cursor would jump to the end of the segment
  • Unconfirm command introduced
    • Segments can be unconfirmed by using the Uncofirm command (located under the Edit menu) or the shortcut Ctrl+Shift+Return
  • Editor updates correctly on Mac now
    • The previous versions did not update automatically on Mac computers in some cases. This has been fixed.
  • Tags displayed as images
    • Previously, tags were displayed as text, now they are displayed as images. The screenshot below shows a couple of paired tags and an unpaired tag.

  • Line breaks and paragraph breaks introduced
    • Line breaks (Shift+Enter) and new paragraphs can be created now in segments
  • Names of users displayed only to project managers
    • First and last names of users are now only displayed to project managers/administrators for created by/last modified by metadata in MemSource Editor. Usernames are displayed to all users.
  • Linguists may confirm locked segments if confirmed in the preceding workflow step
    • The inability to do this sometimes created problems for linguists as they were not able to set a translation job’s status to completed when locked segments were not confirmed

Quality Assurance

  • Spelling
    • Spelling is now one of the available quality assurance checks and it is selected by default for new projects.

Completely Redesigned Spellchecker: MemSource Editor 3.97

$

0

Today we are announcing a major improvement to MemSource Editor. The version 3.97 comes with a completely redesigned spellchecker. To get this new version immediately, download it manually now (the automated update has been initiated but it may take some time).

Spellchecker

  • Powered by MemSource Cloud
    • Previously, the spellchecker was desktop-based. Now it is powered by MemSource Cloud. That means you have to be online to use it. Apart from that there are only advantages:
      • Users get identical results from the spellchecker in MemSource Editor and MemSource Web Editor
      • And the user dictionary is shared across both editing environments too
      • Improvements to the spellchecker (e.g. what is a spelling error and what is not) can be made available much faster, as they are deployed just to our centralized MemSource Cloud infrastructure
      • Interactions with our other cloud-based components are now much easier, such as the QA (see below)
  • Launching the spellchecker
    • Press F7 or go to Tools – Spellchecker to launch the spellchecker
    • The errors will get listed in the QA panel
  • Inline spellchecking
    • Misspelled words are underlined with a red curly line
  • Spelling alternatives
    • Spelling alternatives are suggested after right-clicking on a misspelled word

  • Improved algorithm
    • We have significantly improved the spellchecking algorithm to minimize “false alarms”
  • User dictionary
    • Misspelled words that are in fact correct can be easily added to a user’s dictionary that is stored in MemSource Cloud and is available from any device for the user
  • Integrated in MemSource QA
    • Starting with MemSource Cloud 3.2, spelling is one of the default QA checks for all new projects
    • Therefore, project managers can verify whether all spelling errors have been resolved (along with other QA warnings)
  • We have also integrated spelling into the QA panel in the MemSource Editor user interface. This makes it very efficient to go through the spelling errors. After confirming a segment that had spelling errors, the user jumps to the next segment with spelling errors

Mac-friendly Shortcuts

  • We have added these Mac-friendly keyboard shortcuts:
    • copy source to target = cmd+shift+i
    • insert cat result = cmd+ctrl+space
    • move cat result up = cmd+up
    • move cat result down = cmd+down
    • insert non-breaking space = ctrl+shift+space
    • find next = cmd+g
    • find previous = cmd+shift+g

Other

  • Repetition Exception
    • We have introduced the repetition exception feature already in one of our earlier releases. In the current release we have introduced the option to select multiple segments and mark them as repetition exceptions, using the Repetition Exception command that can be found under the Edit menu in MemSource Editor

Survey: Do Freelancers Use MT and the Cloud for Translating?

$
0
0

MemSource and ProZ.com have recently hosted a webinar that revealed some interesting facts about freelancers and technology. Although the group, with 190 registrants (and a little bit less than half that attended), cannot be viewed as representative for the freelancer community, we still got some interesting numbers. We have set up 3 polls, two of which were related to machine translation and one of which was related to cloud translation technology.

And we got these results:

I bet that currently there are more freelancers than translation companies that routinely use MT.

Sometimes freelancers are asked to use MT by their clients and so it is not their choice to use MT in this case.

Still a LOT of potential for translation cloud technology…

XLIFF/SDLXLIFF Improvements, Apertium MT Added: MemSource Cloud 3.3 Released

$
0
0

MemSource Cloud 3.3 has been released on Sunday, 19 May 2013 at 6:30 PM GMT.

MemSource Cloud 3.2 includes over 80 improvements and bug fixes. Let’s have a look at the most important new features:

Project Management

  • Workflow
    • When linguists attempt to download an MXLIFF or launch the Web Editor for a job that has not yet been completed in the preceding workflow step, a warning will pop up and they will be asked whether to proceed or not

  • Info on translation progress more precise
    • Previously, MemSource displayed the percentage of confirmed segments for each job in a project. Now it is based on the percentage of confirmed characters (the percentage of characters of the total character count in confirmed segments
    • This only works for jobs created after 29 May 2013; information for older jobs is still based on the old algorithm (percentage of confirmed segments)
    • The new way is much more precise as segments can have varying character distribution; 50% of confirmed segments can sometimes mean only e.g. 20% of translation done based on character count

  • Client and domain fields
    • These fields are now only displayed when creating a new project when there exists at least one client and domain entry

Locked Segments

  • Setting jobs with locked segments to completed status
    • Previously, jobs that had locked segments that were not confirmed could not be set to the completed status by linguist users
    • From now on linguists will be able to set such jobs as completed
  • Passing confirmed locked segments through workflow
    • Previously, confirmed locked segments would pass to the next workflow step as not confirmed (like all other segments)
    • From now on, confirmed locked segments will remain confirmed when passing to the next workflow step

XLIFF

  • Segment status mapping
    • XLIFF segment state can be mapped to MXLIFF segment status on import
    • MXLIFF segment status can be mapped to XLIFF segment state on export
    • Confirmed segments can optionally be saved directly to TM on import
  • Do not import selected segments
    • Selected segments, based on their segment state, will  not get imported
  • Tag content visualized
    • XLIFF tags can be visualized in MemSource Editor (from version 3.104 and up)
  • Segmentation
    • <source> gets now segmented by default
    • <seg-source> does not get segmented (no change)

  • Segment status mapping
    • SDLXLIFF status can be mapped to MXLIFF segment status on import
    • MXLIFF segment status can be mapped to SDLXLIFF segment status on export
    • Locked SDLXLIFF segments can be mapped to locked MXLIFF segments

  • Hidden slides
    • Hidden slides are now not imported by default. A new option has been added to import hidden slides

.PO

De Letra: “Why We Chose MemSource”

$

This customer testimonial has been provided by Luciano O. Monteiro, Managing Partner of De Letra, a translation company based in Brazil.

In early 2013, we set out to choose a new translation productivity tool for our company. We had worked with some leading CAT tools in the market, each one of them with their own advantages and disadvantages.

What we had noticed, however, was that whilst most tools would have reasonable entry prices for freelancers or very small translation companies, costs would soar if you wanted to add real-time, server-based collaboration features, not to mention that their price structures would usually mean an expensive one-off payment for a license — as well as subsequent renewals to keep receiving updates.

Thus, we established that we needed a subscription-based solution with a so-called Software as a Service (SaaS) payment structure. A tool which we could use on a regular basis but easily unsubscribe to if it were no longer meeting our needs.

At that point, we were left with a much smaller pool of translation tools to choose from, and we also realised that a cloud-based solution would be more cost-effective than a server-based one. But we still needed to make sure we would not sacrifice reliability, speed and uptime. Finally, the feature that made us choose MemSource over their closest competitors was the fact that MemSource offers not just a web-based translator’s workbench but also a very fast and responsive desktop alternative, MemSource Editor. Other solutions we considered had web-based editors only, which most of our translators don’t like to work with.

We’re now going into our third month with MemSource and we’re happy with our choice. Real-time collaboration with no time wasted in emailing packages back and forth has increased our productivity. Any bugs in the system are quickly dealt with after being reported. Translators like it because it’s so easy to use and it still has very advanced features. Finally, customer support has been very responsive to our requests, many of which have been implemented in recent versions.

Superscript and Subscript Visualized: MemSource Editor 3.106 Released

$

0

We have just released MemSource Editor 3.106. It is available for download and we have also started pushing this new version through our automated update feature to all MemSource users.

Formatting and Tags

  • Superscript and subscript visual
    • Superscript and subscript formatting for MS Office files is now completely visual and is supported in the same way as bold, italics and underline

  • Tags expandable and visualized
    • Tags can be expanded and the tag content displayed for XML, HTML and XLIFF source files
    • Expand/collapse tags via Ctrl+Shift+T
    • Hyperlinks inside tags are clickable when holding Ctrl (your default web browser will launch and open the hyperlink)

  • Delete all tags
    • All tags can now be deleted from the target by hitting (Ctrl+F8)

Usability

  • Retina support
    • Retina display (available on Mac computers) is now supported
  • Automated re-connection
    • When a user goes offline, MemSource Editor will reconnect automatically much faster now

Custom Target Tags: MemSource Editor 3.147 Released

$
0
0

We have just released MemSource Editor 3.147. It is available now for download and we will start pushing this new version through our automated update feature to all MemSource users soon.

Formatting and Tags

  • The content of tags can be edited
    • After tags get expanded (Edit – Expand tags), they can be edited by clicking on the tag and hitting F2.

  • Custom target tags
    • Arbitrary target tags can be created via Edit – Create Custom Tag (supported in HTML, XML or XLIFF source files).
    • Their content can be added/edited by clicking on the tag and hitting F2.
    • Custom tags and tags with different tag content between the source and target tag  (e.g. when the user has edited tag content in the target) are displayed in yellow.

Terminology

  • Note and usage fields
    • Note and usage information is displayed for terms in target now. Previously, this information was displayed for terms in source.
    • We have made this change based on user feedback. Unfortunately it means that if you have been using this feature, you will have to port the contents of your notes and usage fields from source to target terms. It can be done via the term base Excel export/import at once.
  • The note and usage fields are now directly accessible from MemSource Editor when creating new terms.

Usability

  • Automated switching back to the CAT pane after search
    • If a user works with the search pane and then confirms a segment, he/she is automatically switched back to the CAT pane for the next segment.
    • We believe this behavior makes sense and saves time to users, so that they do not have to manually switch to the CAT pane.
  • Obsolete versions of MemSource Editor
    • If a user uses an obsolete version of MemSource Editor, he/she will get disconnected from MemSource Cloud servers and an error message will pop up, prompting the user to update MemSource Editor from our download site.
    • Currently, the obsolete version is defined as 3.137 or lower.

0

MemSource Web Editor 3.36 has been released on Monday, 3 February 2014 at 1:30 PM GMT. This is a major release that introduces state-of-the-art search/filtering features that display results in real time, as you type.

As you may note, the current version of the Web Editor is still beta. Before dropping the beta label we still want to introduce some additional improvements. It should take about 2 months to complete this and as a result, users should experience much higher editing comfort as well as editing speed in all supported browsers (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari…) and not just in Chrome.

Below is an overview of the most important features brought to you by MemSource Web Editor 3.36:

Real-time Find and Replace

  • Find
    • The find feature has been completely revamped, providing results literally as you type
    • Enter the text you want to find into the source and/or target text filter fields and the segments containing the entered text will be displayed in real time
    • Highlighting the found text did not make it into this release but it is coming soon (in our next release)

  • Replace
    • The replace feature has also been completely redesigned
    • The replace feature becomes available, only once some text gets filtered

Real-time Segment Status Filter

  • This version introduces a new real-time segment status filter (almost identical to the one that is available in MemSource Editor)
  • Users can filter by:
    • Segment status
    • Pre-translation origin
    • Created by / Modified by

Real-time Segment Sorting

  • This version introduces a new real-time segment sorting (just like the one available in MemSource Editor)
  • Users can sort source segments by:
    • A to Z
    • Z to A
    • Shortest first
    • Longest first
    • Least repetitions
    • Most repetitions

Usability

  • Select All
    • The Select All (Ctrl+Shift+A) feature has been available for some time but now it has also been added to the Edit menu
  • Preferences
    • The new Preferences menu (located under Tools) provides a number of useful user settings for:
      • Pre-translate
      • Appearance

New Guest User Role: MemSource Cloud 4.0 Released

$
0
0

MemSource Cloud 4.0 has been released on Sunday, 9 February 2014 at 10:00 AM GMT. MemSource Cloud 4.0 includes over 100 improvements and bug fixes. These are the most important new features:

User Management

  • New guest user role
    • We have introduced a completely new guest user role
    • We have renamed all “old” guest user accounts (created before 9 February 2014) to “restricted access”
    • The new guest user role, available in the Team and Ultimate editions, works just like the project manager user role except that it is limited to projects, translation memories and term bases of a specific client
    • Just like the project manager user role, the new guest user role is highly customizable
    • The new guest role can be provided to users to do any of the following (but always limited to the data of a single, pre-selected client):
      • View/modify/create projects
      • View/modify/create translation memories
      • View/modify/create term bases

  • The “old” guest user role
    • All “old” guest user accounts have been renamed to “restricted access” and will be permanently removed from MemSource after 1 April 2014
    • It is highly recommended that MemSource administrators/project managers change all their “restricted access” user accounts to the (new) guest accounts
    • It is not possible to create new ”restricted access” user roles
    • The “restricted access” user accounts are not counted to the purchased user licenses

File Conversion

  • MS Office macro files
    • The macro-enabled MS Office file formats are now supported
    • The extensions of the newly supported file formats are: docm, dotm, xlsm, xltm, pptm, potm
  • Target font mapping for IDML
    • A target font can now be set for IDML files in the IDML file import settings
    • If a target font is not explicitly set by the user, a default target font will be used. For instance, MS Mincho will be used for Japanese by default
  • MS Office file import settings
    • We have removed the option “Import editable texts from drawings”
    • Such content will always be imported for translation from now on

Aligner

  • Multiple files can be selected for alignment
    • Saves a lot of time when there are many files for alignment
    • The file pairs (source/target) must have identical names and are imported in a zip file with a “source” and “target” folders

Project Management

  • New languages supported
    • IUM (Iu Mien)
    • MH (Marshallese)
    • CHK (Chuukese)
    • CHR (Cherokee)
    • QUC (K’iche’)
    • MI (Maori)
    • IU (Inuktitut)
    • NSO (Northern Sotho)
  • Email notifications
    • When job status is changed by a linguist, the project owner receives an email notification (this behavior has been in place for a long time already). And from now on email notification get also sent when the user who is assigned a job is a project manager (previously, no email notification was sent)

Quality Assurance

  • New QA checks have been introduced:
    • Inconsistent tag content
      • Checks whether tag content between source and their corresponding target tags is identical
      • Target tags that with different tag content are displayed in orange in MemSource Editor
    • Empty tag content
      • Displays a warning when tag content is empty
    • XLIFF tags
      • This check is applied only to XLIFF source files
      • It checks, for example, whether paired tags (such as bpt and ept) are in correct order in the completed target file
      • Specifically, it checks whether bpt and ept with same rid (or id) value form a pair (where bpt is opening and ept is closing)  and that such pairs do not overlap with other pairs
    • These new QA checks are supported in the current version of MemSource Web Editor and in MemSource Editor 3.144 and higher
  • All tag-related QA checks selected by default
    • All tag-related QA checks will be selected by default for new projects

TextMinded: Collaborating with Our Clients in MemSource Cloud

$

This customer testimonial has been provided by TextMinded Danmark’s Britta Aagard (CEO) and Robert Etches (CIO)

TextMinded Danmark A/S is a major player in the Nordic translation market. Serving high-profile customers such as the LEGO Group, SAP, Bang & Olufsen and hundreds of others, TextMinded® was looking for translation technology that would support a seamless collaboration between the translation company’s staff and its clients’ in-house language experts.

In 2012 TextMinded® Danmark made a strategic decision to use MemSource as its preferred cloud translation technology, connecting its project managers and linguists with the client’s language staff – this after several months of planning and running test projects.

Aarhus University was selected as TextMinded’s first client to be migrated to MemSource. At the end of 2013, after one year of production in MemSource, Aarhus University’s Language Services Manager, Lenore Messick, summarized their experience:

“MemSource has fulfilled – and surpassed – our expectations. We were very quickly able to start running all internal and external translation projects in MemSource. The licensing policy has allowed us to adjust the tool to our needs as they increase, quickly and painlessly. This is particularly important in a large organization with a lot of semi-autonomous units: we are able to adjust to keep pace with the changes in our organization without a lot of complex negotiation with our IT department.”

Drawing on the success of the Aarhus University project, and utilising many advanced features that have been developed by TextMinded® on top of MemSource APIs, TextMinded® had deployed MemSource along with its own proprietary software at a dozen of its key clients by the end of 2013.  TextMinded® has transcended the translation silo a long time ago, and the partnership with MemSource further supports this important evolution. 2013 also saw the development of a TextMinded® crowdsourcing platform that fully integrates MemSource.

TextMinded® is looking forward to the exciting new collaboration features that MemSource has scheduled for 2014, and certainly plans to utilise MemSource in our drive to synergise our clients’ language resources in a move we have labelled Sustainable Communication.

At TrueLanguage, we’re a small business with a roster of large-scale technical, industrial and commercial clients. These projects often involve huge amounts of text, sometimes being translated into more than twenty languages at a time. Early last year, we were searching for an easy, effective and consistent way to connect our vast network of translators with such large projects, and to avoid the confusion and slowdown caused by differing CAT tools and the occasional difficulties of collaboration during the project’s lifetime.

MemSource has been a major boon to us, as a place where our translators and project managers can interact with each other and with our documents, from any location and in real time. We have been especially pleased at MemSource’s ability to import and export virtually any document type called for in our projects, without compromising document formatting and content. The app allows our project management team to monitor each translator’s progress at every stage of the workflow, which is extremely useful when coordinating high-volume, multi-language projects.

Another of MemSource’s greatest assets is its simplicity of use. As we move more and more of our translation workload into MemSource, we have been delighted to note the ease and speed with which our translators have been able to acclimate themselves to it, after years of working with other CAT tools, sometimes exclusively. In this respect, we’re very grateful for the downloadable MemSource editor client for working offline. We work with translators all over the world, many in regions where Internet access is less than ideal. With MemSource Editor, the minutes needed to download the source and re-upload the completed translation are all they need. MemSource brings security, rapidity, connectivity and convenience to our work processes, and lets us focus on maximizing our business.

Memsource Cloud 4.1 has been released on Sunday, 9 March 2014 at 9:15 AM GMT. Memsource Cloud 4.1 includes over 100 improvements and bug fixes. Below are the most important new features:

Shared Projects

  • The completely new set of shared projects features are a bit of a revolution
    • These features make it possible for separate organizations in Memsource Cloud to collaborate. Before version 4.1 translation jobs could only be assigned to linguist users. Starting with 4.1, translation jobs (more precisely projects) can be assigned to other organizations that have an account in Memsource Cloud. These are some examples of how the new shared projects feature can be used:
      • An enterprise Memsource Cloud customer can assign projects to a translation company in Memsource Cloud
      • An MLV (multi-language vendor) can assign projects to SLVs (single-language vendors)
      • A translation company can assign projects to Memsource users with the 1+ Freelancers account (and not just to linguist users)
    • Availability:
      • Currently only organizations with the Ultimate edition can start using the shared project functionality.
      • However, we plan to extend its availability to other editions soon.

User Management

  • Guest user rights modifications
    • A new setting “Show linguist names” has been introduced
      • This setting makes it possible to show/hide linguist names for guest users and by default is not selected

    • Options to create/delete projects, TMs and TBs removed
    • Option to modify projects removed
      • The reason for these changes is to position the guest role as, primarily, a read-only role
      • We will soon be introducing another solution for a “guest-like” user to create projects or jobs

Quality Assurance

  • A new QA check introduced
    • “Maximum target segment length in % of source” has been introduced as a new QA check

Machine Translation

  • Set machine translation per target language
    • Previously it was possible to set just a single MT engine per project
    • Now it is possible to set MT engines by target language in a project

  • MoraviaMT introduced
    • A new machine translation engine has been introduced, primarily for Moravia and its partners
  • NICT MT engine connector upgraded
    • Our NICT MT engine connector has been upgraded to comply with the latest version of the NICT MT engine

Other

  • Custom logos
    • Custom logos will now be displayed also on the Memsource Cloud sign in page
    • Previously, Memsource Cloud logo was displayed there, irrespective of whether an organization used a custom logo or not

Moravia: Integrating Memsource Cloud

This customer testimonial has been provided by Jan Bares, CTO at Moravia

Moravia was founded in 1990. It is headquartered in Brno, the Czech Republic and employs 600+ staff worldwide. Moravia has ranked among the 20 largest language services providers globally since 2004. It provides translation and localization services into over 120 languages from its production centers in Brno, Czech Republic, Nanjing, China, and Rosario, Argentina.

Late in 2012, Moravia started exploring Memsource Cloud to satisfy a client request for a cloud-based solution for localization project handoffs/handbacks, tracking, and related functions. Our goal was to drive all Memsource functionality from within our proprietary project management system to avoid duplicating tasks when creating projects, uploading jobs for translation, analyzing word count, and so forth.

Given our integration goals, we liked Memsource Cloud primarily for its open architecture, which provides almost all of its functionality via public APIs. After running a few dozen pilot projects through Memsource Cloud, we also appreciated its online editing capabilities, its feature-rich design, and its automation. Once we selected Memsource Cloud, it took less than two months to integrate the solution with our in-house project management system.

Almost all of our integration needs were covered by available Memsource Cloud APIs. There were a couple of API calls that we have asked the Memsource development team to add. We were impressed with the rapid delivery of these additional calls. Some were in production already in a week, and the rest within just three weeks.

After deploying Memsource Cloud, we engaged our vendors to interact with our own system for PM tasks like accepting jobs or analyzing word count, while all linguistic tasks like translation or revision took place in Memsource Cloud. Linguists were free to work in either the desktop Memsource Editor (still connected to Memsource Cloud) or in the fully web-based Memsource Web Editor. Feedback from our vendors and project managers has been very positive.

To date, we have processed more than 60 thousand translation jobs through Memsource Cloud, which has handled imports of many files at once, leveraging very large translation memories, and it’s clearly a robust solution. We’ve already increased the number of projects we process in Memsource Cloud, and we’ve asked Memsource to help us integrate our custom machine translation and quality assurance engines for our implementation. Memsource Cloud is one of several key technologies we’re betting on for agile client support and future growth.

Memsource Cloud 4.2 has been released on Sunday, 6 April 2014 at 9:00 AM GMT. Memsource Cloud 4.2 includes over 100 improvements and bug fixes. Below are the most important new features:

SHARED PROJECTS

  • About shared projects
    • Shared projects have been introduced in our last release (Memsource Cloud 4.1) but were only available to subscribers with the Ultimate edition. Shared projects make it possible to assign jobs not just to your linguists but also to a “vendor” or in other words to another organization that has a paid account in Memsource Cloud. Read more about shared projects in our documentation.
  • Shared projects general availability
    • With the current release we are making shared projects available in all of our paid editions.
      • Subscribers to the Team and Ultimate editions may act as both buyers and vendors.
      • Subscribers to the 1+ Freelancers and Team Start edition may only act as vendors.
  • Buyer and vendor TM in write mode
    • Previously, only a single translation memory could be selected in the write mode. Now it is possible to select both a buyer and vendor TM in the write mode in shared projects for saving segments (or the “write” mode as we call it).

TERMINOLOGY

  • Terminology extraction introduced
    • To extract terms, select relevant jobs in your project and click on Tools – Extract Terms…
    • Terms will be extracted into an MS Excel file that can be further edited and/or directly imported into a term base.

  • Additional metadata when exporting a term base
    • When exporting a term base into MS Excel, it is now possible to also export additional metadata for each term, namely:
      • Created by
      • Created at
      • Last modified by
      • Last modified at

Translation Memory

  • Additional metadata when exporting a translation memory
    • When exporting a translation memory into MS Excel, it is now possible to also export additional metadata for each segment, namely:
      • Previous segment
      • Next segment
      • Created by
      • Created at
      • Last modified by
      • Last modified at

USER MANAGEMENT

  • Guest users may translate
    • In our previous version, guest users could be enabled to view projects but they could not translate (neither using the Web Editor nor with Memsource Editor)
    • The current version introduces a new setting in the user rights section for guest users to allow them to translate:
      • “Edit jobs in Memsource Editors”
      • Selecting this option will enable them to download the MXLIFF file and translate in Memsource Editor or click on the job name and launch the Web Editor for translating

  • TM section now displayed to linguists
    • The translation memory section is now displayed to linguist users.
    • Please note that this change does not add any extra user rights to linguists. Linguists were already able to view the TM name in Memsource Editor/Web Editor and also search the TM via concordance search
    • The main reason for displaying the TM section is to introduce consistency into the linguist job page layout as we also display the TB page to them
    • Only the TM in the write mode is displayed to linguists in the TM section of the linguist project page (the same is true for the TB section)

FILE CONVERSION

  • FrameMaker with new file import options
    • A completely redesigned FrameMaker filter includes a number of new file import options, such as:
      • “Extract custom reference pages”
      • “Extract hidden conditional text

  • IDML soft return
    • Soft return is now supported MXLIFF files (customized segmentation rules need to be used at the same time)
  • XML segmentation
    • With the new option “Segment XML,” segmentation can be turned off for XML files
  • CSV with new file import options
    • We have completely redesigned our CSV file filter
    • We have also added new file import options, including an option to process HTML code in the CSV file

  • MS Excel with HTML
    • We have introduced a new file import option to process MS Excel files with HTML code

  • Manual file type selection
    • Previously file type was determined automatically based on the file extension
    • This is still the default behavior but it is now possible to set the file type manually
    • This can be useful when the file type extension is different from the actual file type
      • For instance, your files are XLIFF but their extension is XML. In this case, selecting XLIFF as file type during file import will make sure the files are imported using the XLIFF file filter and not as XML

Other

  • New Memsource Cloud logo
    • As you may have noticed, we are in the process of introducing new logos
    • Our new logo is already displayed at cloud1.memsource.com and will also be displayed soon on our website
