New File Types for Software Localization

  • We have added support for a number of file types that are used for software localization

    • JSON
    • Haiku CatKeys
    • SRT

MS Office Templates Now Supported

  • Microsoft Office template files are now supported

A New Option for XLIFF, SDLXLIFF and TTX

  • A new option has been introduced for XLIFF, SDLXLIFF, TTX: “Save confirmed segments to TM on import”
    • When selected, segments that get imported as confirmed (e.g. in-context matches, signed-off segments, etc.), get automatically saved into the project’s TM in the write mode

Project Management

  • Translation progress monitoring
    • Progress is now measured as the percentage of characters in confirmed segments
    • Previously the percentage was based on the percentage of confirmed segments which was less precise (there can be segments with a lot of text or very little text and that was not taken into account)

  • User-related metadata can now be hidden
    • There is a new option under project settings: “User metadata displayed to linguists in MemSource Editor”
    • This option is by default selected. If unselected, linguist users will not see any user-related metadata in MemSource Editor
    • This feature will work correctly in MemSource Editor 3.114 and above
  • Completing jobs with not confirmed locked segments
    • Previously, linguists were not able to confirm jobs that were locked and not confirmed. This is possible now.
  • Web Editor enabled for linguists (a global setting)
    • This setting was previously only possible to set for a specific projects
    • Now it is possible to set this option globally and it will affect all new projects

    • This can be useful if MemSource is used via API and the customer has their own solution for email notifications
  • MemSource Editor version displayed for each user
    • When you go to your user list, a new column will be available, titled “Editor Version” that will provide details on the status of MemSource Editor version for each user (never used, very outdated, outdated, OK)
    • Please note that you may need to customize your column settings first in order to have it displayed

Machine Translation

  • LetsMT engine now supported
    • We have introduced an out-of-the-box support of the LetsMT machine translation engine

API

  • Get character count without TM analysis
    • The Create New Analysis API has a new parameter includeTransMemory that makes it possible to get just the word/character count without the TM analysis

Other

  • A new credit card payment processor
    • We have introduced an additional credit card payment processor that will be used to primarily process credit card transactions when paying for MemSource
    • If you had problems with paying via PayPal, you can now try using the new method

0

MemSource Cloud 3.5 is scheduled for release on Sunday, 14 July at 20:20 GMT. MemSource Cloud 3.5 includes over 60 improvements and bug fixes. Let’s have a look at the most important new features:

Project Management

  • 100 jobs displayed per page
    • Previously, MemSource would display 50 jobs per page in projects with 50+ jobs
    • We have raised this to 100 jobs per page now
  • Import of large batches of files faster
    • We have significantly speeded up the import of large batches of files (e.t. 100+ files) into MemSource Cloud
    • Update of segmentation rules  through XLSX
      • Previously, segmentation rules could be updated through SRX or CSV
      • While there is no change for SRX, the CSV format has been replaced by XLSX
      • We found XLSX is easier to handle for most users
      • Read more on segmentation in our documentation site

Tags

  • Tag numbering now spans across multiple segments
    • Previously, tag were numbered separately for each segment
    • The numbering is now configured per paragraph and can span across a multiple segments
    • This allows for higher flexibility when placing target tags in a different order from the source tags in joined segments
    • Tags that come from the same paragraph can now be placed in any order in a joined segment
    • MemSource Editor 3.121 or higher is required for this feature to function properly
    • The screenshot below compares the way tags were numbered previously (left) and in the new version (right). The difference in numbering can be spotted in segments 8 and 10:

HTML

  • New option for HTML files: Preserve whitespaces
    • Whitespace characters (spaces, tabs, newlines…) normally do not carry a lot of meaning in HTML files
    • That is why they will not get preserved in the target file
    • If you want to preserve whitespace characters, select the new option “Preserve whitespaces”

API

  • New API call: Pre-translate
    • The new pre-translate call makes it possible to batch pre-translate a job by calling api/v3/job/preTranslate
    • Read more on the pre-translate API call in our documentation
  • New API call: Edit Job
    • It is now possible to edit jobs via our API
    • For instance, it is possible to reassign a job to another linguist
    • Read more on the edit job API call in our documentation
  • Access & Security Settings
    • Access & Security Settings can now be controlled via our API
    • For instance, it is possible to enable MemSource Web Editor for linguist users

Aligner and More: MemSource Cloud 3.6 Release

$

0

MemSource Cloud 3.6 has been scheduled for release on Sunday, 18 August 2013 at 8:30 AM GMT. MemSource Cloud 3.6 includes over 100 improvements and bug fixes. These are the most important new features:

Aligner

  • With this release we are introducing a much-requested feature: an alignment functionality that makes it possible to create a translation memory from a translation (and its original) that was not processed through a CAT tool
  • To use this feature is simple:

Project Management

  • MemSource Cloud UI is also in Spanish now
  • New user detail page
    • We have introduced a new user detail page that, among other things, lists 30 most recent jobs assigned to the user
  • Delete all translations
    • The feature “Delete All Translations” will now delete all translation except locked segments
  • Filter by status in preceding workflow step
    • It is now possible to filter jobs by whether they are completed or not in the preceding workflow step

Translation Memory

  • Automated tag renumbering for higher leverage
    • For 99% TM matches because of different tag numbers from the segment for translation, we will automatically renumber the tags on the fly, so that the user gets a 100% match (in an analysis, TM search, pre-translation – simply everywhere).
    • For example, if your segment for translation is {1}Good {2}morning and the TM match is {2}Good {3}morning, you will get a 100% match now and will in fact see already the renumbered segment in TM results.
  • Export TM as XLSX, edit it and re-import it back
    • Translation memories can now be exported as XLSX, edited in MS Excel or similar application and re-imported back into MemSource
    • MemSource will update records that have been changed
  • Export only selected target languages
    • It is now possible to select which target languages should be exported for multilingual TMs

File Conversion

  • Improvement of HTML subfilter for XML files
    • When XML includes some HTML content, the HTML content can be processed by a HTML subfilter
    • Now it is possible to use the HTML file filter settings when creating a new job to customize the HTML subfilter
  • XLIFF segmentation optional
    • Previously, XLIFF files got segmented by default. Now there is an option that makes this optional
  • Non-translatable inline elements in XML
    • We have split the previous XML file import option  ”Inline elements” into “Translatable inline elements” and “Non-translatable inline elements”

Machine Translation

  • NICT MT engine

API

  • Download analysis as CSV/LOG file
    • A new API call analyse/download makes it possible to download the analysis files
    • However, if you need to get the analysis in a machine-readable format, the JSON response may still be your best option, via analyse/get
  • Get analysis
    • A new API call analyse/get makes it possible to get analysis results from an existing analysis (without the need to launch a new analysis)
  • Edit project
    • We have introduced a new API call project/edit that makes editing project data possible, such as updating project name, client, domain, adding target languages
  • List of jobs assigned to a user
  • Get progress
    • A new API call getSegmentsCount  makes it possible to get job metadata related to job progress and other job-related information, such as:
      • Number of segments
      • Quality assurance status
      • Translation progress
  • API token expiration
    • In line with our  API documentation we have started expiring API tokens
    • Each API token is valid 24 hours only
  • Client, Domain, SubDomain APIs
  • Get user by username
    • This new API call (user/getByUserName) makes it possible to get a user by his/her username

MemSource Web Editor 3.32 has been released on Thursday, 5 September 2013 at 5:30 am GMT and is now available to MemSource users. We have still retained the “beta” tag for Web Editor for the time being and expect to drop it by the end of year 2013 when it should be on par with the more mature MemSource Editor. MemSource Web Editor 3.32 includes a number of improvements and bug fixes. Let’s take a look at the most important new features:

Terminology

  • Terms get highlighted automatically
    • Previously, terms would get automatically displayed for a segment only in the CAT pane
    • Now they get also highlighted in the source segment

  • Terms can be edited
    • Previously, terms could only be added from within the Web Editor
    • Now, terms can be edited directly by selecting the term in the CAT pane and then clicking on the source term/target term hyperlink

  • Notes and usage examples are displayed
    • When there is a note or usage example, an asterisk (*) is displayed next to the term in the CAT pane and when the term is selected, the note and/or usage example gets displayed
    • Please note that in order to display a note or usage example in the MemSource Editor or MemSource Web Editor, it has to be entered for the source term in the term base

Search and Replace/Filtering

  • Case sensitivity
    • Case sensitivity can be used an additional condition when filtering/searching/replacing text in the translation table

Document Menu

  • The Document menu is now more complete as we have added 2 additional options:
    • Export to Bilingual DOCX
    • Import from Bilingual DOCX

Status Bar

  • Status bar introduced

    • The following gets displayed:
      • All/confirmed segments
      • All/confirmed words
      • All/confirmed characters

Changes Pane

  • The changes pane has been added
    • This pane displays changes made for the selected segment against other workflow steps

New Data Storage and Deletion Policy

$
0
0

MemSource is one the few cloud-based translation technology providers that do not charge for storage. Users, except in the free Personal edition, may store as many projects, jobs, translation memories, etc. as they wish (providing the storage volume is within reasonable limits).

MemSource Cloud has been in operation for over 2 years now and that also means we store a lot of data including a lot of old data. When we analyzed how often projects older than 12 months are accessed/used, we realized that almost never. The vast majority of 12+ months old projects just sit in MemSource Cloud and take up space.

Therefore, we have decided to introduce changes to our storage policy that will come into effect with the release of MemSource Cloud 3.7 on 22 September 2013.

Recycle Bin

Data in the recycle bin that has been deleted before 30 days or earlier will get permanently deleted (as of 22 September 2013).

Projects

Projects older than 12 months will get permanently deleted by the system (as of 1 November 2013). However, users will be able to postpone the deletion for selected projects.

When a project gets deleted, the project’s jobs, analyses and reference files get also deleted. After being deleted, the project will be stored for 30 days in the recycle bin after which it will get permanently deleted.

It will not be possible to create new jobs in projects older than 6 months (as of 22 September 2013). However, users will be able to re-enable the creation of new jobs for selected projects.

We will do a 1-time check in the week starting 23 September to identify recently created jobs in projects older than 12 months and notify the affected project managers that the affected jobs will be deleted as of 1 November 2013. The solution for project managers will be to postpone the deletion.

Please note that a project’s age (how old a project is) is based on the project creation date.

Translation Memories and Term Bases

We will not delete any translation memories or term bases, except those that have been in the recycle bin for more than 30 days.

What Users Should Do by 31 October 2013

Users should check between 23 September and 31 October 2013 whether they still need to preserve any of their old projects. If so, they should postpone the deletion for such projects.

Honyaku Center, founded in 1986, is Japan’s largest translation company with offices in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya and subsidiaries in the USA and China. Honyaku Center has been listed on the Osaka Securities Exchange since 2006.

Honyaku Center has subscribed to MemSource Cloud in 2011. After several months of thorough testing and pilot projects it has made a strategic decision to gradually deploy MemSource in its translation operation.

Hiroki Kawano, Deputy General Manager at Honyaku Center, has commented:

“Over the past year we have rolled out MemSource to most of our project managers as well as freelancers. We have chosen MemSource because it delivers on the promise of user-friendliness but at the same time offers the required functionality. So far we have been very happy with the decision to migrate to MemSource. Not just with the software itself but also with the overall support we receive from the MemSource team. Specifically, the speed at which MemSource engineers can respond to some of our requests is admirable. It is not exceptional that we see some of our requirements go live into production in less than a week.”

Two leading providers of translation technology, XTRF Management Systems and MemSource have announced API-driven integration between their core products, XTRF and MemSource Cloud. XTRF is a translation management platform and MemSource Cloud is a web-based translation environment or CAT tool.

This integration takes the currently available file-based integration to a new level. The API-based integration between MemSource and XTRF will help translation companies and corporate language departments run their translation and localization projects in a single seamless workflow between the two systems.

“The integration that we are announcing is a powerful solution for automating translation projects in server-based and as well as cloud-based environments. The integration between XTRF and MemSource delivers a comprehensive and cost-effective framework for optimizing our clients’ project performance,” said Andrzej Nedoma, Managing Director and founder of XTRF Management Systems.

MemSource CEO David Canek adds: “This integration removes many repetitive tasks that project managers used to have to duplicate in their translation management application as well as their CAT tool. Creating projects, selecting translation memories, assigning linguists, launching word count analyses and producing quotes – all of this and much more has been fully automated between the two systems.”

Contact XTRF or MemSource for further details about the integration, which will become available during November 2013.

ABOUT XTRF
XTRF is one of the most resilient and most developed systems on the market for process management in corporate translation departments and translation agencies. XTRF is an innovative platform that supports the translation department, covering almost all areas of its activities including translation project and workflow management, customer and subcontractor management, invoicing support of sales activities, preparation of quotes and quality management.

ABOUT MEMSOURCE
MemSource provides a complete translation environment for LSPs and corporate localization departments that has been recognized for combining robust performance with user-friendliness. MemSource Cloud includes translation memory, integrated machine translation, terminology management, quality assurance and a web-based as well as desktop translator’s workbench.

  • Job dashboard
    • The job dashboard provides an overview of the statuses of a project’s jobs. It is displayed for projects 2 and more jobs and is minimized by default.

  • Project sections minimization
    • All sections (jobs, analyses, TMs, TBs…) in a project page can be minimized/maximized by clicking on the section’s title.
  • Jobs in progress

    • Projects can now be filtered by source and/or target language

  • German is now available as another language  in MemSource Cloud user interface, thanks to our German localization partner zappmedia.
  • Pre-translating locked segments
    • The pre-translate feature available from within MemSource Cloud used to override locked segments. Now, locked segments are left intact.
  • New languages
    • We have added support for Sami North and Sami Lule
  • Linguist users with an outdated version of MemSource Editor will be notified

Data Storage

  • Data storage policy updated
    • We have already announced some changes to our data storage policy with our previous release. We have added some more options now and also postponed the start of old project deletion
    • As of 5 February 2014, MemSource system will start deleting projects that are older than 1 year
    • Users will be able to postpone (even repeatedly) the project deletion date for selected projects

    • Users will also be able to purchase extra project lifetime when subscribing

Pricing

  • Adjustment of our pricing in US dollars
    • The US dollar has been trading at a two-year low for some time now and the gap between our euro and dollar pricing has become too wide. Therefore, we will be increasing our US dollar pricing slightly as of 1 November 2013. For instance, the Team edition will cost $180 instead of $170 monthly per project manager. Our euro prices remain unchanged
  • Add users/upgrade online
    • It is now possible to add users and/or upgrade one’s MemSource edition directly through MemSource Cloud, without contacting MemSource support. Just click on the “Add users or upgrade edition” link under Setup in MemSource Cloud

    • Both Plunet and XTRF have introduced API-driven integration starting with MemSource Cloud 3.8.

Term Base

  • Term metadata tooltip
    • We have introduced a metadata tooltip that displays term metadata when browsing through a MemSource Cloud term base.
  • TBX metadata mapping
    • When importing terminology from a 3rd-party tool, such as MultiTerm, critical metadata such as timestamps, notes “note” and usage notes “usageNote” get now automatically mapped to the corresponding fields in MemSource

Aligner

  • Custom segmentation
    • It is now possible to select custom segmentation rules when aligning files.

Machine Translation

  • KantanMT
    • MemSource now supports KantanMT out of the box

File Conversion

  • InDesign and locked layers
    • The InDesign filter does not process locked layers by default (“Extract locked layers”).
  • We have redesigned our XLIFF and HTML filters to be able to provide more advanced functionality
    • For instance, we will be able to support the localization functionality of HTML5 and also introduce the support of XLIFF 2.0 more rapidly

Documentation

Aarhus University: 1 Year after Switching to MemSource Cloud

This customer testimonial has been provided by Lenore Messick, Language Services Manager at Aarhus University:

At Aarhus University Language Services, which provides the university’s administration with translation services (primarily from English to Danish), we have been using MemSource for all translation projects since December 2012. Our decision to implement MemSource was based on a detailed analysis of the university’s needs and a comparative analysis of the leading CAT tools on the market. We needed a flexible, robust CAT tool that would not require extensive internal IT support and maintenance. Ideally, the tool also needed to be easy to learn, as the university has a very large number of translators spread out across departments, centers and administrative divisions, but limited resources available for translator training.  As the university also makes extensive use of external translators, the tool needed to support collaboration with these external suppliers. MemSource appeared to fit the bill on all three counts, especially as compared to the CAT tool we used before MemSource. (I should mention that I have considerable experience with translation software both as a translator and a project manager.)

MemSource has fulfilled – and surpassed - our expectations. All of the staff translators at Language Services who had worked with our previous CAT tool made the transition to MemSource smoothly, and we trained several translators with no previous CAT tool experience in a matter of days. We were very quickly able to start running all internal and external translation projects in MemSource.

As a translator, proofreader and project manager who also trains other linguists in using MemSource, I find that MemSource has all of the core functionalities our organization needs. The tool’s focus on the functions that linguists and project managers actually use without a lot of extra bells and whistles makes it easy to learn and easy to teach.  The licensing structure means that I have been able to adjust the tool to our needs as they increase, quickly and painlessly. This is particularly important in a large organization with a lot of semi-autonomous units: we are able to adjust to keep pace with the changes in our organization without a lot of complex negotiation with our IT department or management, which is very cost-conscious.

I would particularly like to emphasize the quality of MemSource’s online support. I have never had to wait long for a response, and the response is always courteous and useful, no matter how minor the problem. MemSource are also extremely focused on optimizing their tools to meet our needs, and they have worked closely with us and our major supplier to design custom workflows and to integrate a third-party MT engine into our interface. We feel that we are a valued customer for MemSource – a rare experience in any business and particularly remarkable in the world of cloud-based IT products! In short, I recommend MemSource highly.

MemSource has recently been reviewed in Multilingual, a leading expert publication for the localization industry. The review has been written by Hannah Berthelot, a Project Manager with In Every Language. These are some of the observations from the review:

“MemSource is essentially a cloud-based translation environment in which one is able to handle projects from start to finish. In MemSource Cloud you have the tools to create and manage projects, translation memories (TMs) and term bases, as well as to analyze documents for leverage, assign tasks to linguists and monitor progress.”

“Though this has been done before, for example by [competitor mentioned], it has not been done with such dedication to user-friendliness…
